Sources: Dallas Stars to add veteran Ryan Suter on 4-year, $14.6 million deal

Defender Ryan Suter will sign a four-year contract with the Dallas Stars, sources told ESPN. The deal valued at $ 3.65 million per year. It has a total value of $ 14.6 million over four years per source.

The Stars have also improved goalkeeping depth by signing former Stanley Cup winner Braden Holtby to a one-year, $ 2 million deal. He played for the Canucks after a decade in Washington last season. It was fighting with an average of 3.67 goals and 0.889 save percentages, both his career lows.

Suter, 36, was bought out of the last four years of his contract with Minnesota Wildlife in early July. The Wild also bought the deal from Zach Parise, who signed $ 98 million worth of 13-year deals with Suter on July 4, 2012.

Suter was in high demand on many teams after it became available. Sources said islands general manager Lou Lamoriello interested in bringing Suter to Long Island, although several other teams interested as well.

For Suter, several years were important in a deal, the sources said. Suter was an AllStar and finished second in the Norris Trophy poll in his freshman year with Minnesota. In his seven-year career with the Predators, Suter has scored 55 goals and 314 assists in 656 regular-season games.

Suter helped Minnesota to a series of six straight playoff appearances immediately after his arrival. The Wild only missed the postseason once in the Parise and Suter era. But the team never made it past the second round.

The Wild created $ 10.33 million in Cap Space through the acquisitions of Suter and Parise but will pay each player $ 6.7 million over the next eight years.

The Stars reached the Stanley Cup final in 2020 but missed the playoffs in 2021. However, they were hampered by injuries last season as star forwards Tyler Seguin and Alexander Radulov only played 14 games together.

Dallas is expected to rebound in 202122 and supported much of its blue line by signing Miro Heiskanen to an eight-year extension worth $ 67.6 million
